Has anyone told you yet that starting your day with depressing COVID-19 news is also bad for your health? So, why not see a different side of the coronavirus story?
I know why you have come here. Probably, either you are one of those enthusiastic atheists, someone who strictly believes in religion and is thinking about the title being so absurd or may be you belong to the third, but my favorite category – the ones who are confused about a lot of things going on in our lives.
Nevertheless, before I get to what I want to say, I hope you all are doing well in your quarantine time!
You all may have heard the news that medical researchers are having a hard time identifying the exact formula that could save the world from its biggest enemy of the century, the coronavirus (COVID-19). And I’m very sure that on the other hand, you might have even seen the clips in which Islamic Mullahs are openly claiming to be arrested if coronavirus damages the life of any individual who promises to come to the religious gatherings and prayers.
Well, to be precise one type is hoping for God to help the entire humanity with a miracle while the other is believing in themselves to find a solution.
Truth Is Both Should Go Hand-In-Hand To Beat COVID-19!
In such difficult times, I began to wonder about the saying that I once read when I was a child “God helps those who help themselves”. If my belief is right then I think all the Mullahs and people who believe in religion should pray to their creator to make the researchers successful in beating the COVID-19.
But unfortunately, we all know what’s going to happen when the world will get over this infectious disease, the preachers will thank their Gods for helping them survive through the times of danger and science again will be ignored.
This leads me to one big question; what do the preachers do when they get sick? Of course, they go to the hospital and take medicine, only to thank Allah later, right?
Now I’m not wishing that any molvi should get sick to see the power of medicine and science in particular – since the former is a branch of the latter, but has a molvi also ever wondered that the loudspeaker he uses for Azaan also came in with the evolution of technology?
There are so many questions that the religious community can easily ask themselves about and I bet the answers will lead them to the fact that science and technology are actually making the world a better place to live. In fact, I’m also of the opinion that religion and science should go hand-in-hand for more peace in the world… but then I recall that humans are also made up of greed and ego.
My opinion shouldn’t be taken as very offensive. I don’t even blame Mullahs because the concepts of science and medicine have been sold as if they always belonged to the Western World. However, the reality is far opposite to what has been told to the modern generation. It was the Islamic civilization in between the time period of 800 to 1450 that dominated the world with inventions whether in the form of introducing alcohol as an antiseptic, advanced drug design methods, surgical treatments or how the modern-day camera evolved with Ibn-al-Haytham’s lock-up story.
All in all, being a Muslim I’ll always try to help myself before I turn to Allah and I would recommend that to you too, especially for this quarantine time. Let’s take care of ourselves, follow the guidelines stated by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for COVID-19 and make sure that our elders are safe.
