Hasan Minhaj’s Patriot Act is cancelled but his work is bound to live forever.

Being eight months into 2020, we are sure that a lot of you might have thought that the year could possibly not get any worse than it already is. Well, it kind of just did! Because after six extremely successful seasons on Netflix, Hasan Minhaj’s ‘Patriot Act’ got canceled and will no longer be renewed for its viewers.

Minhaj in a twitter post announced that the weekly talk show, which had its run from October 2018 to June 2020, will not be returning for a seventh season anymore.

The Emmy and Peabody Award winning show explored modern cultural and political scenarios in an exquisite comic way with a unique relatedness to Asian Americans, providing them with a platform to be represented to the world through Minhaj, the show’s correspondent. And it’s safe to say that the cancellation of such a globally loved and celebrated show would bring some disappointment from across borders. Not only did it upset critics who encouraged the South Asian representation that was being done through Patriot Act, an online petition has also been circulating with over 2000 signatures demanding to renew the show with a seventh season.

Though it is no surprise that talk shows on Netflix have not always worked well, the extensive and extraordinary global reach that Minhaj was able to get was surely something that did not require much effort from the streaming service.

Patriot Act not only became an American highlight, but also a universal sensation in no time. Apart from that, being a host of color himself, Hasan Minhaj’s support towards anyone similar has always been at the forefront.

In an interview with Variety, Hasan Minhaj once expressed

“If you have a definitive voice or a project or thing that you want to put forward, I would say, just be unapologetic. Go for it. Because all that matters is that you say what you have to.”

And that is exactly what made the world love him too. That is exactly what made the world so very devastated on the discontinuation of his dearly loved ‘Patriot Act’. After all, the show, and the comedian himself gave everyone numerous instances where the love would just come pouring out from each and every corner.

Even though Hasan Minhaj’s show will be missed on screen, there is no doubt in the fact that his work in all of the episodes will remain relevant for times to come. And to shed light on his brilliance, here are some of the best moments from one gem of a show on Netflix.
