On August 16, 2020, Turkish First Lady Emine Erdoğan met with Bollywood’s renowned artist Aamir Khan at the Presidential Residence in Istanbul. Being a meeting that was requested by Khan, the central topic of discussion remained the social projects that both parties were overseeing in respect to their civic responsibilities for the betterment of their societies.

All smiles!

As on one hand, Erdoğan has been a major contributor to the ‘Zero Waste Project’ launched in 2017, she was brought up to date about the various initiatives, including ‘The Water Foundation’ that Aamir Khan has set up in the drought-affected areas of India along with his wife.

Not only that, the Bollywood actor and director also showed great interest, enthusiasm and support towards the humanitarian projects that are set to aid the locals in Turkey and are currently being led by the First Lady herself.

Being in Turkey to do the location scouting for his upcoming movie ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ the actor expressed his views on the similarities that the Indian and Turkish cultures held together. He said that while the closely knit Indian family structure shows great resemblance to that of Turkey’s, the congruency in language also aids to bring the two cultures closer than they have always been. Moreover, the presence of rich traditional roots and practices in both areas also remained a topic of discussion at the Huber Residence in Istanbul.

Erdoğan also appreciated the content of Khan’s movies that usually revolve around social aspects of the world that need keen attention from everyone. His movies not only serve as a source of entertainment for the locals but are also celebrated internationally for raising sensitive and important social issues that have been deeply rooted in every corner of the world in one way or another. Be it talking about a heart-wrenching act such as suicide, unrest due to religious conflict, or even women empowerment, Khan’s movies have always been able to stay at the top of the charts while portraying societal issues that are present widely but ignored greatly throughout the globe.
